about

"Lion Sized: Solid, bass-heavy noise rock along the same lines as Jesus Lizard. Accordion Crimes: a bit more Birthday Party grind employed here, with occasional blurts of full-on skronk breaking up any potential monotony. Both bands adroitly know when to apply the “heavy.” Good split." –Jimmy Alvarado, RAZORCKE

"In order for traditional 7-inches to work, they have to be really good. That’s because the tiny records require more participation from the listener — instead of flipping the record after five or six songs as you would with an LP, you have to change sides after one song. Consequently, the two songs on the two sides better fucking blow you out of the water if the record has a shot at not getting filed away with the other lesser seven-inches that only graced the turntable once. Fortunately for this split 7-inch, Accordion Crimes and Lion Sized arrange two captivating — and complementing — songs that prevent the single from entering the nether regions of your record collection.
“I would kill for an original thought,” singer Bryon Parker shouts over Accordion Crimes’ latest effort, “Academy.” Much darker and less melodic than a majority of the band’s previous material, the song is driven by a relentless bass and drum intensity, and adorned with lyrics that are hollered with a sense of urgency and vigor. It’s a welcomed new direction for Accordion Crimes, who continually seem content to pen songs that aren’t as easy to digest as, say, “Planes Over Milwaukee,” but are nonetheless exceptional."

-Brian Polk, The Yellow Rake

"Accordion Crimes bring a similar clean crunch, dark alley sound with their track 'Academy', these guys go in s different Gang of Four severe direction, when they break into syllable bursts of ultra-post punk, statement driven spoken word... 'I would kill for an original thought.' Metal electric guitar scrapes chords over unnatural drums that are all punches... as hard as possible. It builds to a cathartic final verse...he means it. Literally he's going to kill someone. Shellac is definitely haunting the magnetic particles in that reel to reel box on the sleeve. This one might even be more bass centric than Lion Sized...where do both of these bands get off letting the bassists write songs? I mean, who knew they had it in them?
These are best played loud of course, mastered by Bob Weston (ah ha) it's really a perfect split...these two must play together in CO, and if that's the case, I couldn't imagine a better live show. All this leads me to believe Denver has some angry and cold underpinnings, both of these bands are playing with such measured expression, nothings wasted on excess or god forbid...emotion. Can I even go further and use it as some kind of metaphor for the country? Well...it makes sense.
There's a lot of frustration out there."

about

Accordion Crimes Denver, Colorado

A band that were influenced by the sounds of cities in the 90's. Louisville, Chicago and D.C. can be heard on various cuts.

We were obsessed with releasing limited runs of vinyl and performing with respectable acts.

A Minor Forest, The Regrets, Speedy Ortiz, Ought, Parquet Courts and Metz were kind enough to share stages with us.

All that remains are these sparse, distorted recordings.

ACADEMY

I once
used to be
first in my class
at the academy
for liars
I always
made the grade
stealing quotes
from the authors
that they made

I would kill
for an original thought
I would kill
for an original thought
I would kill
for an original thought
I would kill
for an original

antique slang
from world war two
you could catch
a bullet in the avenue
all the tragedy
of images
the fire spread
now it's bringing
down the bridge
and now it's bringing
down the bridge

I would kill
for an original thought
I would kill
for an original thought
I would kill
for an original thought
I would kill
for an original
